The College Hills Ecoscape

Located within walking distance of Birmingham-Southern College (BSC), the new College Hills EcoScape will officially be dedicated on June 9, 2007 at 9:00 am.  This 10,000 square foot outdoor classroom is the 7th urban garden to be dedicated by the Southern Environmental Center in metro Birmingham since 1996, and the third in a year.  Raised beds filled with native wildflowers and an abundance of fruit and vegetable plants provide wonderful views from the stone benches underneath two giant oak trees.  The ornamental entrance to the EcoScape Garden incorporates part of the original gateway to BSC.

The College Hills EcoScape will be utilized as a community park and as a outdoor classroom both by BSC’s Urban Environmental Studies Program and NorthStar Youth Ministries.  Phase I project sponsors include the College Hills Neighborhood Association, the Associated Colleges of the South, and Wade Sand & Gravel.
